Subject : Computer Science

L-2 Computer Network & Topology

A) Draw and label the components of Data Communication

  • Sender – The device which sends the message (example: computer).
  • Message – The data being transferred.
  • Medium – The path through which the message is sent (example: cables, air).
  • Receiver – The device that receives the message.
  • Protocol – Rules that define how data is transmitted

B) Draw and label type of network architecture

There are two types of architectures:
1) Peer-to-peer
  • All computers are equal.
  • Each can act as a client and a server.
2) Client Server
  • One server and multiple client computers.

C) Draw and label types of Network
There are 4 types of networks:
1) LAN
2) MAN
3) WAN
4) PAN

1. LAN (Local Area Network)Covers a small area like a school or office.

2. MAN (Metropolitan Area Network)Covers a city or large campus.

3. WAN (Wide Area Network)Covers a large area such as a country or the world (like the internet).

4. PAN (Personal Area Network) Covers a very small area around a person (e.g., Bluetooth).

D) Draw and label types of Network Topologies:

Types of topologies are:
1) Bus
2) Star
3) Ring
4) Hybrid
5) FDDI

1. Bus Topology – Single cable connects all computers in a line.
2. Star Topology – All computers are connected to a central hub.
3. Ring Topology – Computers are connected in a circular way.
4. Hybrid Topology – Combination of two or more topologies.
5. FDDI – Uses two rings with fiber optics for high-speed data transmission.
