Computer Science

Class-VII

Lesson 4 Computer Memory

A. Fill in the blanks

Non Volatile RAM IPO ROM Input Three

1. Input, Process and Output is also known as IPO cycle.

2. Inout  unit is used to enter our data in Computer.

3. CPU mainly has 3 (three)  components.

4. Primary memory classified into RAM ( Random Access Memory ) and ROM ( Read Only Memory )

5. Secondary memory is non-Volatile  by nature.

B. True or False

1. ALU stands for Arithmetic Language unit.                                                   False

2. Monitor is a part of input unit.                                                                       False

3. RAM is volatile memory.                                                                                  True

4. Cd , Pendrives are example of secondary storage unit.                           True

5. Output unit shows their result in the form of soft copy or hard copy. True

C. Short answer type questions

1. Write four examples of input unit

Ans: Input devices like keyboard, Mouse, joystick, scanner etc.

2. Write four examples of output unit.

Ans: Output devices like Monitor, Printer, Speaker, Webcam etc.

3. Write name of some secondary storage devices.

Ans: Secondary Storages like Flash,  Floppy Disk,  Zip Disk,  CD+RW, CD+R , DVD+RW . DVD+R,  Storage Tape, Smart Media,  Removable Hard Disc,  Micro Drive,  Memory Stick etc.

D. Long answers

1. Differentiate between Input unit and Output Unit

Input Unit

Output Unit

Input unit is the unit through which we can enter our data or instructions

into the computer system for further processing

Output unit is used to display the result on the monitor after

processing. However the result will be shown in the form of soft copy or hard copy

For entering our data we use many

input devices like keyboard, Mouse, joystick, scanner etc.

For taking output we used output devices like Monitor, Printer, Speaker, Webcam etc.

2. Differentiate between RAM and ROM

Ans:

RAM

ROM

Random Access Memory

Read only Memory

Volatile Memory

Non Volatile Memory

Stores data and program during and

after processing

Stored data and program by manufacturer

Stores information

temporarily

Stores instructions

(Information permanently)

Processing time is Very fast, but

uses a lot of power

Processing time is Fast, but uses very

little power

3. What do you mean by computer memory also name its parts.

Ans: Memory UnitThe memory unit is the main primary storage unit of

computer. It stores data and instructions when we entered data through input unit. In memory unit data can also be stored permanently for future reference. Computer Memory is classified into two categories:-

4. Draw a block diagram of CPU?

Ans:

5. What do you mean by IPO cycle? Explain it with the help of diagram.
